• What will happen when East meets West? After more than six weeks of playoff action, it all comes down to two teams: Jason Kidd and the upstart Nets against Kobe, Shaq and the defending champion Lakers.



• When Mike Bibby scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and four more in overtime, it seemed the Kings guard would end the Lakers' two-year reign as champs. But L.A. was up to the challenge, winning Game 7 of a classic Western Conference Finals, 112-106 Sunday. The Lakers will host Game 1 of the NBA Finals against New Jersey, which advanced with a 96-88 victory at Boston on Friday.



• Reggie Miller has been one of the New York area's favorite villains on the basketball court over the years, but that may change with his donation of $206,000 to benefit victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The Pacers franchise made a matching donation to the Indianapolis Red Cross.



• Two members of the Indiana Pacers, guard Reggie Miller and forward Jermaine O'Neal, were named to the USA Basketball Men's World Championship team on Thursday.



• After consecutive eighth-place finishes and first-round playoff eliminations, the Pacers hope to make the jump into the ranks of top contenders in the Eastern Conference next season.



• - Reggie Miller just concluded his 15th season with the Pacers, and is under contract for a 16th. Beyond that lies uncertainty about his future, and that of the team. It is impossible to envision the Pacers without him, but that day is coming. The only question is when.



• Jermaine O'Neal was honored Thursday as the NBA's Most Improved Player for the 2001-02 season, an award that reflects not only his continued emergence as a player, but his growth into a role as a leader with the young Pacers.



• Los Angeles Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant and the Orlando Magic's forward/guard Tracy McGrady each were honored with their first career selections to the All-NBA First Team when the NBA announced the 2001-2002 All-NBA teams.
  
  The New Jersey Nets were represented on the All-NBA First Team for the first time in franchise history as guard Jason Kidd earned All-NBA First Team honors. Kidd joined the All-NBA First Team for the fourth consecutive season.
  
  Rounding out the All-NBA First Team were Los Angeles Lakers' center Shaquille O'Neal and San Antonio Spurs' forward Tim Duncan, who tied as the top vote-getters with 626 points each. O'Neal made his fourth appearance on the All-NBA First Team and led all players with 125 First Team votes. Duncan was named to the All-NBA First Team for the fifth consecutive season and secured 124 First Team votes.
  
  The All-NBA Second Team consists of the Minnesota Timberwolves' forward Kevin Garnett, Dallas Mavericks' forward/center Dirk Nowitzki, Sacramento Kings' forward Chris Webber, Seattle SuperSonics' guard Gary Payton and Philadelphia 76ers' guard Allen Iverson.
  
  The All-NBA Third Team includes the Boston Celtics' guard/forward Paul Pierce, Detroit Pistons' forward/center Ben Wallace, Philadelphia 76ers' center Dikembe Mutombo, Dallas Mavericks' guard Steve Nash and Indiana Pacers' forward/center Jermaine O'Neal.
